Fireproof Wall Safes- they can take the heat

Back to articles

Safes primarily offer protection of valuable items against thieves, but there is an extensive range of fire safes available on the market that offers protection against fire as well.

Fireproof safes are brilliant- they offer extra security at a tiny increase in price from standard safes. Think about the important paper documents- passports, insurance papers, birth certificates, and not to mention, your oodles of cash- that would be destroyed if a fire broke out and they were stored in a non-fireproof safe. Your life would literally be up in flames. That’s a small price to pay for extra reassurance!

So, now that we’ve established that having a fireproof safe is pretty vital, how do you go about finding one? There are lots of safes available in stores and online. When making the purchasing decision, you have to first and foremost make sure that you are purchasing a genuine product that will do that job well. This is why many people buy safes from brands that have a good reputation, including Chubb, Sentry and Phoenix. It’s worthwhile investing in a good quality safe, as the items they protect are absolutely priceless. Request a certified document that states the features of your safe from your retailer. If possible, ask for test results or a demonstration before you purchase it.

Apart from being fireproof, you need to also check that the safe is actually effective at keeping burglars out. The recommended locking system to have is one based on biometric technology such as this is. It’s the most secure system around, as it’s fingerprint scanner ensures that only you can access the contents of the safe.

Another really helpfull article on fire safes and data security. We don't hold cash on the premises but some of the legal documents must be kept safe and secure - not to mention our data! I can't imagine how we'd cope if the backup tapes melted in a fire . . . .
