Why Are Fire Safes Tested?

Back to articles

This week Phoenix Safe Company tells us a little about fire safe testing.

Fire resistant safes are rated by the amount of time they can withstand the extreme temperatures a fire produces, while not exceeding a set internal temperature depending on what it is designed to protect.

Paper records such as birth certificates, passports and insurance documents can only withstand temperatures of up 177 degrees C before they start to disfigure.  Data records such as the commonly used DLTs, DAT Tapes and LTOs can only withstand temperatures of up 52 degrees C.

Phoenix design and manufacture fire safes that are tested to ensure that in the event of a fire the contents will remain protected, not only by fire but also by superheated gases and ultimately against water when the fire is extinguished.

There are three main industry recognised certificating testing bodies that provide fire safes with their ratings.  These are the American UL standard, the Swedish NT standard and the German VDMA standard.

Here at Phoenix we show the ultimate confidence in our own products by providing our customers who have bought a fire tested safe, with a “Lifetime Free After the Fire Replacement Warranty”.  Should you be unfortunate enough to suffer the consequences of a fire and if your safe is involved, you can rest assured that you will not have to purchase a new safe as Phoenix will provide you will a free replacement.

So if you are looking for safe which gives you the ultimate in fire protection and a free replacement then take a look at the Phoenix Safes we offer at: www.thesafesupermarket.com
