Great attention was given in the design of the safe to create not only resistance to attack by force or fire, but also to simplicity and ease of use.
The user friendly electronic digital lock allows the user to programme their own personal code from up to 16 easily remembered numbers, with a master code override if required. Whenever an emergency arises, simply close the door and the PAL automatic locking facility takes over. Sliding steel bolts, 30mm in diameter, will immediately engage into the door frame, locking the door shut and prevent access by force. In addition, a unique combination of door curvature seals will also present a virtually airtight defence against penetration by heat, gases and the chemicals ever present in a fire.
Even greater strength and resistance can be obtained with an optional PAD 4, anchor system. This device permanently bolts the safe to any type of floor and prevents its physical removal from the premises. Use of this system not only deters attack, but also significantly increases the insurance rating of the safe.

Safe Testing

Sentry safes - fire protection safe. During this test the safes a Sentry safe a Honeywell and a cash Sentry cash box were tested against fire and water. The safes were submerged for 5 minutes in a pool they were then burned for 30 minutes at 1000 degrees. Safes are not just used to keep the burglars out, they can also be designed to keep out the natural elements, namely fire and water. If you store important paperwork and important documents such as passports, birth certificates and insurance papers in your safe, then you should definitely think of purchasing a fireproof safe! In the event of a fire, all these important documents can go up in smoke (literally) if you just use an ordinary safe. Similarly, in the event of a flood, a waterproof safe can be particularly handy at keeping your documents high and dry. ID fraud is a massive problem nowadays with more ways to pay for goods and easier ways to get hold of your personal details. I read this article today, which reminded me of several cases of identity fraud that I’ve heard of.
My friend at university had lost one of her (mostly unused) banks cards, and didn’t even notice that it had gone missing until she checked her statement a month later. She discovered that all her money (£500) had been wiped out and had been spent on a load of things in places she had never been! She was shocked, but most of all was annoyed at the inconvenience of having to waste lots of time and (more) money on explaining the situation to the bank, having the card cancelled and waiting for a new card to be sent to her. Eventually, her bank gave her the money back, but she’s definitely learned to be more aware!
Reports state that, on average, it takes victims over 15 months to realise that their identity has been stolen and that it takes over 300 hours to clear their name. This article will tell you how to detect identity fraud quicker, and what you can do to reduce your chances of being a victim.

This ensures that your most valuable possessions are kept safe (including those all-important insurance documents!), and will be a big load off your mind. There are loads of different sizes of fire safes available nowadays to suit your needs!

I am definitely one of those people who are always late for everything, and most of the time it’s because I’m rummaging around my whole house trying to find my apparently very well camouflaged keys. I’ve tried all sorts of things to make them easier to find- big chunky key rings, patterned keys and even a key finder! But, in true scatterbrain fashion, I lost the remote as well. Guess I might have to invest in a key storage cabinet after all…

There is no secret or magical way to protect your business property against theft. It takes a little planning and diligence, especially if you take business trips frequently. A prudent businessperson must ensure his business property both at home and awayStep 1Take an inventory of your business property. Part of protecting your property is knowing what you have to protect. It is difficult to file a theft claim if you cannot prove that you actually owned the equipment. Be sure to include the serial numbers and purchase value of the business property. File the inventory away in a secure location.Step 2Lock your premises. This is especially important during off hours. If you are not the last person to leave for the night, make sure you designate a trusted employee to close down shop at the end of the day.Step 3Install an alarm system. In addition to locking the premises, an alarm system adds an additional layer of protection and provides peace of mind for the business owner.Step 4Keep your cash register in a secure, yet visible, location. If you have a retail operation that requires a cash register, make sure it is visible at all times, yet placed in an area that will make it difficult for would-be burglars to access it. Additionally, keep it locked when it is not in use.

However what most of us don't realise is that water can be even worse. If your business isn't in an area already at risk from flooding you may dismiss the need to water protect your documents. But consider this, what is the first thing that people fight a normal fire with, water. If a fire starts in your building then if you have a sprinkler system it will switch on and whilst this may put out your fire it could be just as destructive to paper or media. Once the fire service arrive they will also use water to put out fires at your premises, only a lot more of it and under high pressure. This can easily destroy records and penetrate normal cabinets and storage. Below is a video showing how a Sentry Safe Fire File stands up to water damage compared to a standard model.

Protecting Your Valuables from Burglars

Whether you have old heirlooms that have been handed down through your family for generations or have new items such as jewellery that is expensive, a safe can secure these items to protect them against theft. What type of safe you choose will depend upon several different factors. The class of the safe will be one aspect that determines the resistance to the type of tools used as well as the length of the attack.
Limited, Moderate or High Protection
One type of safe which is a Class TL-15 offers a limited amount of security for the items you have stored inside. This includes the use of tools to open the safe. The type of tools typically used to gain entry to a safe are:
picking tools
electrical tools
mechanical tools
carbide drills
grinding points
This classification of the safe is for periods of attack for 15, 30 and 60 minutes when these tools are used. How long the safe can withstand the attack is part of the consideration of choosing a certain classification.
A Class TL-30 is a safe that works on a combination lock. This does help to provide a bit more protection than a limited amount. A safe of this classification will withstand about 30 minutes worth of abuse from the tools mentioned above as well as power saws and cutting wheels. A safe with a Class TL-46 is another type of combination locked protection against burglars that will resist for about 40 minutes. This one is just a little better than the TL-30.
A Class TRTL-30 will protect your valuables from intruders or burglars and is considered a high protection safe. The amount of time it will resist abuse is about 30 minutes. This includes electrical tools and hand tools. In addition to all the typical tools that would be used to gain entrance to this safe, it will also hold up to torches including welding and cutting torches. Another classification of safe is the Class TRTL-60 with the only difference being that it will withstand this type of tampering for 60 minutes.
If you are looking for the safe that will resist practically all the methods used to gain entry, a Class TXTL-60 can even hold up to high powered explosives such as nitro-glycerine. This would definitely be the classification of safe you would want to purchase if your valuables are not in a bank safe deposit box.
If you have valuable jewellery, keep a good amount of cash in your home or are a company with important documents that might be of interest to the competition you will definitely need to buy the best safe you can buy. The sentimental value or the monetary value of some items cannot be replaced even though you may have them insured. The only way you are going to keep the items the safest possible in your home or business is to purchase the best safe you can find.
Remember once these items have been stolen the chances are not very likely that you will ever see these items again. Protecting your valuables with a safe that is rated as high as you can possibly work into your budget is the best way of ensuring they stay where they belong - in your safe.

Will santa bring you a safe for Christmas?

As Christmas roars towards us and the number of shopping days diminishes at a rate that makes your hairs stand on end, you will notice that web shops are offering up discounts and deals on the latest trinkets and gadgets in the hope you'll buy them for your loved ones. I don't know if you've noticed, though, but there just doesn't seem to be any imagination going on in the world of consumer products at the moment. It's the same tiny remote controlled helicopters, the same Santa that drops his trousers at passers by and generally the same amount of tat that is being fed to an ever-hungry and desperate crowd. So here's an idea - why not give a gift that will last past boxing day? Why not help someone else with a gift that will actually serve them for years? Of course, I'm going to say "give a safe", but before you guffaw with laughter, think about it - we're coming out of a recession and lots of people who lost their jobs are now working for themselves. They're investing in their own business and will probably be struggling to get enough resources together to fit out an office and you could actually save them an awful lot of problems in the future by buying something that will actually give them a great benefit. They don't need to break the bank either. A data safe can actually save money and deposit safes are ideal for the shop keeper or market stall holder. So, be kind to your relatives and if they're starting out, give a gift that may actually be useful!

Safes are heavy!

A thief in America beaks in to a restaurant to steal a safe but discovers what most of us already know, safe are pretty heavy!
In this instance the robber had to leave the safe but did get quite far despite his bungling. Remember you should where possible always bolt down or fix your safe in place to prevent anyone "trying" to walk away with it.

However, it's just not true. A goldsmith's from Kuala Lumpur was turned over at the weekend and all the gold stored in display cabinets was taken. However, when the thieves tried to get into the safes, they were thwarted. Apparently there were 'burn marks' where they tried to get in (maybe using that laser!), but in the end they had to leave without the contents. You can read more about it here : Click Here And remember, if you absolutely positively need to protect something valuable, we have a range of safes that will keep the bad guys at bay. Goldsmith or not, information can be more valuable than shiny things so check out our data safes for the ultimate in protection.

First Direct Security not up to scratch...

If, like me, you're one of the millions of First Direct customers in the UK, you may have been surprised to get a number of texts from the bank as part of your normal statement updates. The service is generally fantastic, informing you of your debit-card funded indiscretions on a daily basis, however this morning's raft of texts may have got you jumping out of bed with shock. You see, due to a mess-up at their data centre, texts of other people's balances were sent out to many people. Through my initial pre-coffee bleary eyes, it seemed I'd spent over £3000 yesterday, that's one hell of a restaurant tab! First Direct said there had been a 'problem'. This shows that one of the most secure banks in the world can have issues and if it can happen to them, it can happen to you.

We've been busy here, and there, and over there...

The Safe Supermarket has been live for a good few months now but we've got more to come and I thought I'd take a little bit of time out to tell you about a few other sites that can help your office supplies buying experience a whole lot easier. This site is just one of ten that will concentrate on supplying you the best brands at the best prices in just one niche. Each site will stock just one type of product - and plenty of them. We aim to give you a fantastic choice of products from suppliers that know exactly what you are after and can deliver the next day, wherever you are. The Internet has had a fantastic effect on our spending power but it's come at a cost to many. The efficiency and courtesy of the local supplier who gives you a little bit more for your money seems to have been lost and so we aim to change that. Our network of distributors are the sort of people you would have dealt with before you started buying everything off the Internet. But now, you can deal with them whilst still benefiting from our incredible buying power. You buy with one of our sites and we deliver from somewhere near to you. It's not just dropped on your doorstep or in reception and left to gather dust. We'll help you and advise you and maybe even fit it (depends what it is, obviously, but it's someone you can chat to). So, whether it's paper, seating or printers - we have the site for you. I'll explain more in subsequent posts as the sites go live, but stick around - an Internet revolution is taking place.

Buying a Security Box - Cash Boxes, Document Boxes and Post Boxes

Security is a growing concern, be it in your home or business. The
best way to quickly and cheaply secure your items is with the use of a
security box such as a cash or document box or in the case of your
post, a secure post box. Cash boxes can be used for storing your
office petty cash. This should be a box that only certain individuals
have access to. It should be kept locked and used for petty cash
approved purposes only. In this way you will be able to control and
record spending whilst making sure its location is only known to a few
people. Cash boxes are also good for keeping low value household
cash and valuables in. However if you plan to keep a lot of cash or
high value items in your home you should invest in a proper security
safe. In a store, a cash box can be used to quickly store cash or
items if you don't have time to get to your safe and then be
transferred straight in when you next visit. Document boxes are
normally designed to keep vital documents such as passports and
receipts safe. Simple document boxes will just offer protection from
theft however many will also offer fire and water protection which is
vital when considering the safe storage of papers. Document and
cash boxes can now be bought that incorporate many extra security
features such as electronic locks and coin sorters. Secure post
boxes are perfect for buildings or businesses where a standard letter
box cannot be fitted or would not provide enough protection. Post boxes
can be found in a variety of sizes and shapes with various levels of
security. You may also need a post box for multi occupancy buildings
that need to be secure yet accessible to all residents. Post
boxes made from steel are extremely weather resistant and can look
great. Stainless steel post boxes are durable for many decades and are
generally offer the best value. Many people now prefer to have an
external post box that can be put on their house exterior and act as a
feature. Be sure you choose the right security box for the job and that your cash or document box is fit for purpose.

Hidden in plain view - hide your items where they can be seen

There are many different types of security safes available to ensure
your valuables are protected and stored out of sight. But another
solution is a diversion safe. This type of safe is disguised as an
everyday object, such as a wall socket, paint can, soup can, cleaning
fluid bottle or other. As you can imagine, these safes are a variety of
different sizes to authentic next to the genuine objects that they
imitate. Also, many types are weighted correctly. Diversion Safes
are a ingenious portable safe solution. They are not needed to be
maintained, are inexpensive and there is no fitting or upheaval finding
a place for them. The majority of Diversion Safes are sealed with a
screw base as the main security feature is the fact they are hidden and
not suspected as anything valuable. Diversion safes can be a
great solution for very small high value items such as jewelery or
papers. For a simple, security solution they are well worth a look. The
downside with diversion safes is if they are found. Once they are
discovered they are simply screw top devices and your valuables are
accessed within seconds. There are more comprehensive solutions
when you get to a more conventional type of safe. The security is based
upon locking mechanisms, there are hand, biometric, key code and key
locking mechanisms available and these vary in security levels and
price. In addition to this, items stored in conventional or
diversion safes are still susceptible to fire with these units so do
consider, and be aware of this before purchase. If you feel that a
higher level of security or security with added fire protection is
needed you will have to look at a more substantial safe solution. Fire
Safes will achieve this but will need professional fitting.

A wall safe might be a better bet if you're short on space

When people think of deposit safes in the home or workplace
they very often immediately bring to mind the idea of a huge steel box
sitting in the corner of a room with a dial that only a talented
detective with a stethoscope could possibly break in to. They're
usually brown in colour and pretty unattractive so hiding one next to
the television is generally a no-no. It's pretty unlikely you'd be able
to get one to fit in with the decor either, so taking along a piece of
carpet or curtain to your local safe shop is unlikely to do you any
good. Luckily, there's another option and it can actually mean
you have a more secure option. It's the wall-safe and although they
require a little work, they can offer an extremely useful place to
store your valuables. A wall safe, as if you didn't already
realise, is essentially a safe that is inserted into a wall. It
obviously needs to be installed professionally to ensure it's secure
and can't simply be ripped out the wall, but if done properly you have
not only an extremely secure place to put things, it's also hidden. Although
safes are by their very nature, safe, why not take away any temptation
the thief may have by simply hiding the safe itself. If the thief has
got enough time, they may be tempted to try to break in or force a safe
door. If they can't even find it then they will never even attempt it. Obviously
there are some downfalls to this approach as wall safes do have
limitations. For example, they are very often much smaller than normal
safes, walls just aren't as big as they used to be, but if you're just
storing jewelery or money, this shouldn't be a problem.

Best shredders for Westminster and parliment - shred anything including MP's expenses

Whether you're a member of parliament (MP), civil servant or just an honest businessman the current press coverage about MP’s expenses should make us all think about how we dispose of information. As many people feel that the banks have let them down (with good reason), many are deciding not to use them at all and keep their money at home. As the UK Government guarantees up to £50K if your savings are lost due to a collapsing bank, it makes you wonder how much money is bundled up inside deposit safes all over the country if people distrust them that much. Personally I think it's more to do with a feeling that neither the banks nor the government are to be trusted with our own money anymore rather than a simple instinct to hoard cash. Also, people are realising that sometimes there are things far more valuable than money. For example, with the increase in identity fraud many are taking drastic action and shredding their documents when finished with, but what happens to documents that you absolutely must keep? How can you keep them safe? I know, the answer's obvious but I have to at least attempt to be subtle! Of course a safe is the ultimate place to keep them if you can hide them away and use a good quality deposit safe that perhaps comes with a guarantee. We offer a wide range to store your laptops and other electronic equipment too.

Be safe - be fire safe!

As we live our super-speedy lives and just get on with the day-to-day job of working for a living, we sometimes tend to be in a bit of a bubble, unaware of what goes on around us. It's unsurprising, then, that many people don't consider what could happen to their valuables or important documents in the event of a fire. Like many things, a fire that damages our goods or equipment is 'something that happens to others'. Unfortunately, the statistics speak for themselves. In the most recent figures available from the Office of National Statistics, there are around 41,000 fires a year in buildings other than dwellings. A scary statistic, however what's more daunting is the fact that houses and flats attract nearly 71,000 fires a year. Now, we're an office supplies company and so home use wouldn't normally be our main market, but with the proliferation of home-based businesses, all having the same legal requirement to store documents as normal business, the time has come to offer them some sort of safety. Luckily, fire proof safes are no longer at the cost that only large business can afford and laptop safes and a new range of home office safes now mean that probably the most important part of the small business can be protected. Unsure about which fire safe to choose? Check out our article on fire proof ratings for more information.

Welcome to the Safe Supermarket!

It's been a tough journey but finally we've made it on to the Internet with the first of a number of websites that will make your office supplies purchasing much easier! The office supplies marketplace has altered drastically over the last few years and like most things, the Internet is the biggest growth area for us as well as many other retailers. It makes it incredibly easy for people to view, choose and order their goods without even having to lift the phone or leave the building. However, there's been a problem. For too long now the marketplace has been dominated by some very large players who seem to have it all wrapped up. It makes it extremely difficult for new business just entering the market to even get a foothold in the office supplies arena as it takes vast amounts of time and money to market effectively to the likes of Google and Yahoo. This is where the Supermarket Online can help your business get the upper hand! We pride ourselves on having the buying power of the big players, yet the local knowledge and delivery etiquette of the little guy around the corner. If you're an office supplier, you can take advantage of our massive investment in technology and marketing to boost your profits whilst keeping control of your local deliveries. Each of our niche websites will cater for one particular type of product and this enables us to dominate the vertical markets. So, if your local customers want fire safes, shredders or printer ink - they can find it on the Supermarket Online and youcan deliver it!
